What children study

Five subjects, taught every week

We say what children read, make and practice, and we show you the work at the visit.

  • Latin

Children chant and recite in the early grades, then learn grammar and translate short passages. By grade 8 they read the poets.

  • Logic and writing

Children name a claim, give a reason and find the gap in an argument. They write paragraphs, then essays, and read them aloud.

  • The reading life

A shared reading list, set by the teachers, with books read aloud in class and books read alone at home. Each child keeps a journal.

  • Math and science

Facts said aloud in the early grades, then problems that ask for the reason as well as the answer, and a notebook for each experiment.

  • History, art and music

One long timeline from kindergarten to grade 8, with drawing, singing and an instrument every week.

  • Seminar

Once a week the class sits around one table with one text. The teacher asks, and the children talk to each other.
