Questions

What families ask us

How does admissions work?

Families visit, apply and hear from us in March. The admissions page lists each step, and the calendar there shows the months.

When are open houses and visits?

Open houses are in October and January. Visit days run most Thursdays from October to March, and you may book one on the visit page.

Can we visit before applying?

Yes. A visit day is how most families begin. You sit in on a morning lesson and talk with the head of school.

What is a day like?

Mornings are for recitation, Latin and math. Afternoons are for history, science, art and music, and the day ends with a book read aloud. The day page walks through it hour by hour.

How does tuition work, and how do we ask about financial aid?

Tuition is set by the year, and the office gives the figures at a visit. Financial aid is available; here is how to apply: an aid form follows the application. The tuition page explains each step.

How big are the classes?

Each grade is one class. The program matrix on the programs page lists the class size for each stage.

What about lunch, the dress code and phones?

Families send a lunch. Children wear a plain dress code, and phones stay in backpacks, switched off. The policies page has the details.

Is there before or after care?

Yes. Before care runs on school days from 7:30 am, and after care until 5:30 pm. Families pay for the days they use.

How does the school talk with families?

Teachers write twice a year about each child and meet families in the winter. The office sends a weekly note, and the head of school answers email the same week.

What are Latin and logic for a child of eight?

Latin begins as chants and games, which children enjoy and remember. Logic begins as noticing what a sentence claims and why. Both are small habits that grow slowly.

When do we hear back?

Decisions go out in March for the fall that follows.

Still have a question?

Write to the office, or book a visit day.
